PM opens new Technology Faculty and Grand Entrance of KDU
January 10, 2022• The inauguration of ‘Faculty of Technology’ a great leap forward
The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) establishing its 10th faculty inaugurated the ‘Faculty of Technology’ during a ceremony organized at the KDU auditorium, Ratmalana today (Jan 10). The ceremony commenced with the opening of the newly constructed grand entrance of the KDU.
The 5th Executive President and present Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the KDU Vice-Chancellor Maj. Gen. Milinda Peiris.
Envisaging producing skilful graduates and a workforce, KDU established the new faculty today and also expects to offer a wide range of degree programs including life skill courses to its scholars.
Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne who is also the Chairman of the KDU Board of Management addressed the gathering soon after the welcome speech by the Vice Chancellor.
Addressing the gathering Prime Minister Rajapaksa said KDU has contributed a lot to save large amount of foreign currency by retaining Sri Lankan students in the country those were expecting to pursue foreign education.
“I believe along with the establishment of new faculty, KDU will produce professionals those required for the country’s development drive” he added.
Vice Chancellor Maj. Gen. Peiris presented a memento to the Chief Guest to mark the occasion.
Dean of the Faculty of Technology Dr. K. M. G. Premadasa delivered the vote of thanks culminating the ceremony.
Former Air Force Commander Marshal of the Air Force and Governor Western Province Roshan Goonetileke, Education Ministry Secretary Professor Kapila Perera, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishatha Ulugetenne, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Chairman of the University Grants Commission Senior Professor Sampath Amarathunga, Deputy Vice Chancellors of KDU, Deans of Faculties, Directors, military officers and gathering of distinguished invitees were present at the event held adhering to the stipulated healthcare guidelines.
