Naval personnel volunteer to cleanup beach to coincide with VNF Annual Camp
January 11, 2022A beach cleaning programme was conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in Uswetakaiyawa recently (Jan 09). According to Navy media sources, this environment protection cleanup programme was held to coincide with the Annual Camp of the Sri Lanka Volunteer Naval Force (VNF).
Naval personnel who are attending the VNF Annual Camp 2022 had in their numbers attended this social service initiative to clean the Uswetakaiyawa beach of plastic and other solid waste pollutants, it says.
The Volunteer Naval Force is the main arm of the Sri Lanka Navy in the civilian sphere with Naval Training vigilant in readiness to provide the required assistance in the form of expertise and man power in times of national urgency and distress.
The Volunteer Naval Force Headquarters conducts annual and weekend training programs to update the knowledge and skills of Volunteer Naval Force personnel who are not mobilized.
The cleanup programme was held under the guidance of Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Senake Senavirathne, in keeping with stipulated health guidelines, it further says.
