Defence Secretary graces Anniversary Pirith chanting ceremony at DSC

Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne graced an all-night 'Pirith' chanting ceremony at the Defence Services College (DSC) in Colombo last evening (Jan 19).

The ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony was conducted in view of the 15th anniversary of the school.

Religious proceedings conducted by the Maha Sangha invoked blessings on the country, school, teachers, students and all others.

The Defence Services College was declared open on 17th of January 2007 with 172 students and 8 teachers. It was established mainly to ease the challenges encountered by the Tri-Forces and police personnel in getting their children admitted to popular schools. DSC, a National School now boasts a student population of more than 3400 students and extensive infrastructure facilities.

Academic studies are handled by the Ministry of Education while administrating infrastructure facilities is carried out by the Ministry of Defence.

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Gen. Shavendra Silva, Principal, members of the academic and administrative staff, students were present at the occasion.
