SLN foils Rs. 24 million worth cannabis racket
January 23, 2022Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in a joint operation with the Police nabbed 80 kilos and 500 grams of cannabis worth of Rs. 24 million along with a suspect at the Chulipuram area, Jaffna on last Friday evening (21).
The cannabis haul was nabbed from a house situated in Chulipuram, the SLN said adding that this special operation was conducted by the SLN Ship Uttara under the directives of Northern Naval Command along with the Kankesanthurai Police.
According to the SLN sources the haul of cannabis was recovered in 38 parcels those that were stuffed in 5 sacks.
The operation conducted adhering to healthcare guidelines also nabbed a suspect associated with the racket.
The SLN believes that the street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis would be over Rs. 24 million.
The 38-year-old suspect, resident of Chulipuram, was handed over to the Kankesanthurai Police for onward legal proceedings with the haul of Kerala cannabis, the SLN added.
