Memory of Fallen IPKF War Heroes Honoured on India's Republic Day

The memory of fallen IPKF War Heroes who laid their lives in Sri Lanka while fighting against LTTE terrorists, hand in hand with Sri Lankan Armed Forces was refreshed at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) monument in Palaly, Jaffna on Wednesday (26) to coincide with the commemoration of the 73rd Republic Day of India.

The acting Consul General of India in Jaffna, Mr. Ram Mahesh, together with the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa in a solemn ceremony placed floral wreaths at the monument in honour of those fallen heroes of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) who laid their lives in defence of the country before 1991.

Majority of them sacrificed their lives during the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) operation, 'Operation Pawan' in Jaffna between the year 1987-1989. Officials of the Consulate General of India in Jaffna and few Senior Officers were associated with the brief ceremony.
