Heart to Heart Fund delegation meets Secretary

A delegation of the Heart to Heart Fund met the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General SHS Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV usp at the Ministry for a discussion on Monday (19th August 2019).

The delegation handed over a proposal to integrate the functions of the Heart to Heart Trust Fund with the University Hospital KDU.

The Heart to Heart Trust Fund was incorporated in 2014 in order to assist cardiac patients needing financial assistance to undergo surgery or other therapeutic procedures. The Fund has sponsored the surgery of 210 patients so far and all these surgeries have been performed at the Sri Jayawardenapura General Hospital (SJGH). The Fund proposes that the University Hospital KDU as a possible venue to perform surgeries. This could serve as a viable solution to clear the huge waiting lists at the SJGH. The Fund also expects to give priority to patients of the armed forces awaiting such surgeries.

Vice Chancellor of the Kotelawala Defence University, Air Vice Marshal HMSKB Kotakadeniya, Executive Director of University Hospital KDU, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, senior KDU officials, office bearers of the Heart to Heart Trust Fund including the Co-Founders Dr. Ruvan Ekanayake and Dr. Rajitha Y De Silva and Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry were also present at the meeting.
