“SRSG commends SL troops Incredible Work” & “Excellent Professional Conduct”
February 14, 2022Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) Mr El-Ghassim Wane attended a formal Medal Parade held in recognition of the incredible work of the Sri Lankan Army's Combat Convoy Company (CCC) in Gao on Saturday (Feb 12).
The UNSG's Special Representative took the salute of the Sri Lankan contingent, about to return home after completion of their tenure in Mali, the Army stated.
The Head of the MINUSMA in a tweet stated that the supply of the bases in Mali over long & treacherous roads under the MINUSMA of the UN is the most complex UNPKO, the only one to employ CCCs, the Army reports further stated.
Meanwhile, the MINUSMA East Sector Commander Stefan J Andersson in a retweet reply to Mr El-Ghassim Wane, described the SLCCC as an excellent unit with very professional and loyal troops stating that he is proud of them, the Army added.
Sri Lanka's 3rd contingent includes 20 Officers and 223 Other Ranks engaged in convoy protection duties in Mali.
