Fourth Colombo Naval Exercise – 2022 concludes
February 16, 2022The fourth Colombo Naval Exercise – 2022 (CONEX 22) conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy drew to a successful conclusion on Monday (Feb 14). According to Navy media sources the exercise commenced on the 12th(Feb).
Organized under the guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne the exercise was aimed at enhancing professionalism and experiences of naval personnel, it says.
The Sea Phase of the exercise was held on 13th and 14th in seas off Colombo after being flagged off on Saturday (Feb 12) onboard SLNS Gajabahu, under the patronage of Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Prasanna Mahawithana, it adds.
Action station, replenishment at sea (RAS), maneuvering exercises, visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS), day and night firing for surface and air targets, communication exercises etc. were key features of the exercise.
The concluding proceedings of CONEX – 22 was reviewed by Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva with naval units involved in the exercise, steam past saluting him, it says.
Meanwhile, a Bell 212 helicopter of Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) was deployed as a supportive element of the exercise. A number of exercises were conducted, displaying air and naval cohesion and operational readiness, say SLAF media sources.
The exercise proceedings were held in compliance with COVID-19 health protocols.
