Navy brings an ill fisherman ashore
February 21, 2022The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has brought an ill fisherman ashore for treatment, today (21).
Reportedly, the fisherman was aboard a local multi-day fishing trawler about 115 nautical miles (about 213 km) off the country’s southern tip requiring immediate medical attention.
The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources had conveyed a message of emergency at sea to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Colombo located at the SLN Headquarters.
Reacting to the situation, SLN has deployed a Fast Attack Craft attached to the Southern Naval Command to fetch the ill fisherman ashore for treatment.
He was transferred to the Galle Harbour administering first aid and afterwards directed to the Karapitiya Hospital for onward treatments, the SLN sources said.
A multi-day fishing trawler left the Galle fisheries harbour on Feb 8, SLN added.
