Procession carrying Deegawapiya sacred relics left

The procession carrying the sacred relics and the Crest Gem of the Deegawapiya Stupa left the Colombo Sri Sambodhi Viharaya amidst religious blessings of the Maha Sanga today morning (March 02).
Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne who arrived at the temple premises deposited the revered articles on a specially designed vehicle during the religious ceremony organized to commemorate the fourth Anniversary of the founder of the Buddhist Media Network and the former Chief Incumbent of Sri Sambodhi Viharaya, late Ven Daranagama Kusaladhamma thero.
Conduction of religious observances during the session was presided over by the Chief Incumbent of Sri Sambodhi Viharaya and the Chairperson of Buddhist Media Network Ven. Boralande Vajiraghana thero.
The procession will reach Pasyala, Muruthawela Dharmachakkarama Temple for the offering of Buddha Pooja and is scheduled to reach the day’s destination, Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy today evening.
At the culmination of the three-day long religious procession, the sacred relics will be deposited in the sacred Deegawapiya Stupa on March 06 and the Crest Gem will be kept at the Deegawapiya Temple premises until completion of the Stupa construction work.
