State Minister of Defence Assumes Office at Defence Ministry
March 16, 2022State Minister of Defence Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa assumed office at the Ministry of Defence at Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte today (March 16) during a simple ceremony amidst religious blessings of the Ven. Maha Sangha.
Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne warmly welcomed the Minister on arrival at the Defence Headquarters premises and ushered him to the new office.
Buddhist religious observances were conducted by the Maha Sangha including the Chief Incumbent of Abhayaramaya Temple Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero and the Chief Incumbent of Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple Ven. Dr Kirinde Assaji Thero invoking blessings by chanting Seth Pirith in the office. The Anusasana was delivered by Prof. Medagoda Abhayathissa Thero.
At the auspicious time, the Minister symbolically placed his signature on a formal document, signifying the acceptance at the office.
Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, Additional Secretaries of the Defence Ministry, Director General Civil Security Department, Heads of the organizations under the Defence Ministry and the State Ministry together with officials of the Defence Ministry were present at the occasion to greet the Minister.
Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa also presently holds the portfolio of Minister of Irrigation.
