Coast Guard releases more turtle hatchlings to sea
April 06, 2022Another batch of turtle hatchlings were released to sea by the Sri Lanka Coastguard (SLCG) recently.
According to Coast Guard media, three hundred and thirteen (313) turtle hatchlings incubated at different locations in the island under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP) were released to the sea during the course of the past several days.
This spectacle of young turtles entering their natural habitat for the first time was witnessed by many foreign tourists and locals during the session.
Coast Guard’s turtle conservation project has initiated every effort to conserve turtle eggs in or around their natural egg laying nests, in the vicinity of SLCG Life Saving Posts/ Establishments, to ensure the safety and natural habitat of turtle hatchlings, the SLCG said.
To date the SLCG has released 4144 turtle hatchlings to the sea during this year, the SLCG added.
