Army builds house for ex-LTTE combatant
April 13, 2022A new house build by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) was gifted to an ex LTTE cadre recently. According to SLA media, the house built with army manpower and technical expertise was handed over to the beneficiary, Rasawallan Thaboruban of Mailaddy who was living without a proper house with his family.
The former combatant was rehabilitated and reintegrated to the society after he was set free on a special Presidential pardon on 24 June 2021. Foundation-stone for the house was laid in November last year (2021) after his plight was brought to the notice of the Army Commander, it says.
The house was built by troops of 10 Sri Lanka Artillery with funds from a philanthropist, it says.
The Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva joined the house warming ceremony at Mailaddy on Monday (Apr 11) via Zoom from the Army HQ at Sri Jayawardenepura in Kotte. Commander, Security Forces Jaffna Maj. Gen. Sujeewa Senarath Yapa together with the sponsor of the project, Mr Vish Nadaraja handed over the keys of the new house to the ex-combatant and his family during the ceremony, says Army media.
