State Defence Minister assumes duties
April 19, 2022Newly appointed State Minister of Defence Hon. Prof. GL Peiris M.P. assumed his duties a short while ago during a simple ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence today (19).
Secretary, Ministry of Defence Gen. Kamal Gunaratne welcomed the new State Minister of Defence on his arrival at the Defence Ministry, Defence Headquarters Complex in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte.
Hon. Prof. GL Peiris was appointed as the State Minister of Defence by His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, yesterday.
Accordingly, the Swearing in Ceremony as the State Minister of Defence was held at the Presidential Secretariat, last evening.
He also continues to hold the cabinet ministerial portfolio as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the meantime.
Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Director General of the Civil Defence Force and senior ministry officials were also present at the occasion.
