Army gifted CIMIC Park to Jaffna civilians
May 09, 2022Sri Lanka Army (SLA) gifted a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Park in Kopay area for Sports, Recreation and Education Support to Jaffna civilians, during a ceremony graced by Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva yesterday (May 8).
The CIMIC Park includes a Calisthenics unit for physical training, Rest and Recreation facility, Futsal indoor soccer game pitch facility, Educational support unit with library for children and Health & Medical aid facility etc, the SLA sources stated.
The facility aims 'fashionable trend in creating healthy habits, allowing society to improve their own physical and mental wellbeing as the means of developing trust and confidence between military and the community', the SLA said.
Family members of late Mr J.S. Rajaratnam, Vice Principal at Hartley College, Point Pedro and several other philanthropists mainly financed this novel concept initiated by General Officer Commanding 51 Division Maj. Gen. Chandana Wickramasinghe.
The CIMIC Park further strengthens trust and confidence among civilians in order to inculcate a sense of companionship as their "own camp" in the area, the SLA added.
Commander Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna Maj. Gen. Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the day's ceremonies, the SLA confirmed.
