Navy produced boat to run passenger service

A Sri Lanka Navy produced passenger boat was officially handed over to Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva at the McCallum Gate boat anchoring yard in front of Lake House in Colombo, on Thursday (22nd August 2019). According to Navy media, this passenger boat would be used for a Canal Boat Service initiated by the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development.

The locally produced boat had been built by the Naval Boat Building Yard at Welisara and could provide transportation facility for 50 passengers at a time. The Sri Lanka Navy follows all safety measures during the passenger service conducted from Union Place boat anchoring yard to the McCallum anchoring yard in collaboration with Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation. This new pilot ferry service project launched in the Beira Lake would provide a solution to ease traffic congestion in the city
