Rainy weather to continue
May 31, 2022- Navy deploys relief teams in Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces.
Prevailing rainy weather is likely to continue for the next several days according to the weather bulletin issued by the Met Dept today May 31).
According to the weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Department at 5.30 am today, The prevailing showery and windy condition is expected to slightly enhance today and the next few days.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm may occur at some places in these areas. Several spells of showers may occur in the Anuradhapura district.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times in western slope of the central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Navy has deployed 06 relief teams in several places in the Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces to provide relief to communities in flood prone areas. Four (4) naval teams are deployed to Ratnapura and two (2) to Thawalama.
In addition 29 SL Navy relief team are kept on standby in the Western (03), Southern (8) and Northwestern (18) Naval Commands to face emergency situations.
