SLCG releases another batch of baby turtles
June 08, 2022One hundred and thirty four (134) turtle hatchlings that had hatched out of 222 turtle eggs incubated at different locations in the island under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP) were released to the sea recently, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard said.
The release of these young turtles to their natural habitat was witnessed by many foreign tourists and locals.
The SLCG takes every effort to conserve turtle eggs in or around their natural nesting locations as to ensure their safety.
Eggs will be protected elsewhere when they are threatened at the initially laid setting.
As of today, the SLCG has released 9368 turtle hatchlings to sea during this year and they are presently conserving 6530 turtle eggs, they added.
