New SL Army accommodation facility vested on soldiers
June 08, 2022Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne was the Chief Guest at the ceremony organized today (08) in order to vest a newly constructed accommodation complex on soldiers attached to the Defence Headquarters Complex in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte.
The Defence Secretary unveiled the plaque of the new building at the invitation of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva and Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage during the session.
The new accommodation complex is comprised of all amenities including a welfare canteen, Seva Vanitha shop, medical inspection room and other essential facilities and could accommodate 740 soldiers.
Corps of Engineer Services, Sri Lanka Engineers, other Regimental manpower of SLA, Navy and Air Force personnel have extended their technical expertise for the project.
The event saw ribbon-cutting and traditional oil lamp lighting associated with formal housewarming ceremonies.
Gen. Gunaratne was welcomed by the CDS and the Army Chief on his arrival at the venue. Senior Officers including Army’s Chief of Staff, Commandant of the SLA Volunteer Force and Air Force representatives were also present at the ceremony.
