Navy nabs Cannabis in northern waters
July 19, 2022Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed about 30 kilos of Cannabis, during a special operation, while it was floating at the seas off Kachchativu Island yesterday (July 18).
The SLN said operation was conducted to disperse the poaching fishing trawlers and Cannabis in nine packages, weighing about 30 kilos in its wet weight were seized close to the Kachchativu Island.
Navy suspects that the smugglers have abandoned the haul of narcotics while spotting the Navy’s presence.
According to the SLN sources the gross street value of seized cannabis haul is around Rs.9 million and they also said it will be produced for onward legal proceedings.
