SLN foils another Cannabis smuggling racket
July 20, 2022Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed Cannabis worth over Rs 172 million with two suspects during a special raid carried out at seas off Old Casuarina Beach, Karainagar in Jaffna yesterday (July 19).
SLN sources said the Cannabis packed in 17 packages, weighing about 575 kilos and 600 grams in its wet weight were seized from a suspicious dinghy at sea during the operation.
The gross street value of seized Cannabis is about Rs 172 million, the SLN said while the suspects identified as residents of Madagal in Jaffna, aged 42 and 51 were produced before the Kayts Police for onward legal proceedings together with the Cannabis and the dinghy in custody.
