Green farming brings in maiden harvest in East

An organic paddy cultivation project in the Eastern region has produced a harvest of 1750kg of paddy. According to Sri Lanka Army media, army troops under 6 Sri Lanka Armored Corps (SLAC) troops of the 223 Brigade under the 22 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) had taken up to sow paddy in an 1.5 acre land in Mailawewa.

A traditional harvesting ceremony was held by troops on Saturday (16 Jul) to reap their maiden harvest grown mostly using own produced green fertilizer, it says.

Army troops going in line with the government’s green agricultural drive sowed the 1.5 acre abandoned paddy field in April this year.  

This project was carried out under the blessings of Commander, Security Forces - East Major General Priyantha Jayawardana and guidance of General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, Major General Sanath Aluvihare, it says.
