“9th Colombo Defence Seminar” on Thursday

The flagship annual international seminar of the Sri Lanka Army, ‘Colombo Defence Seminar - 2019’ will begin on Thursday (29th August). The two-day conference being held for the 9th consecutive year, will be begin at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.

President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to grace the inaugural ceremony on Thursday morning.

This year, the conference will be held under the theme “Evolving Military Excellence in the Contemporary Security Landscape”. A large participation of local and foreign military officers, security experts, global strategists, intellectuals, think tanks, military experts, diplomats and other distinguished guests are expected to attend this year’s talk where 13 foreign and 14 local speakers are to address the gathering on thematic topics. Representatives from more than 40 countries have so far confirmed participation at the conclave, this year.

Nine sessions spread over two days will see presentations, deliberations and intellectual interactions on thematic topics including, ‘Contemporary Security Landscape: Conflict or Cooperation’, ‘Confronting Terrorism’, ‘Military Modernization’ and ‘Military Readiness in the Contemporary Security Landscape’.

A press briefing, chaired by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva to announce of the conference was held at the Kingbury Hotel in Colombo last evening (26).
