Stunning success of military sportsmen at Commonwealth Games
August 03, 2022Woman Petty Officer, Gayanthika Abeyrathne of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has beat the Sri Lanka record in women's 800m at the “Commonwealth Games 2022” held in Birmingham, United Kingdom yesterday (Aug 02).
Accordingly, she renewed her own record clocking 2 minutes and 01.20 seconds, beating her previous national record of 2 minutes and 01.44 seconds, the SLN said. She also holds the national records in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m events.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army weightlifter, Corporal Y.D.I Kumara of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps secured the Bronze Medal in the 55 kilo weight lifting category at the ‘Commonwealth Games 2022’.
