SLAF and SLN join dousing fire
August 27, 2022Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) and Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) extended their immense support and contribution in dousing fire erupted at Muthurajawela wetland reserve at Kerawalapitiya and at Pubudugama, Wattala.
SLAF Base Katunayake deployed a Bell 412 helicopter equipped with a 980 litres Bambi Bucket yesterday (Aug 27) to assist in dousing severe fire that had ignited in the Muthurajawela wetland reserve at Kerawalapitiya, the SLAF sources said.
The SLAF immediately utilized the helicopter from the No. 4 Squadron, fire fighting vehicles and firefighters to carry out the operation on the instructions of the SLAF Commander, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana in response to the request of the Disaster Management Centre.
Meanwhile, the SLN deployed three firefighting teams to douse a sudden fire broke out in bushes close to the swamp of Pubudugama, Wattala on 26 Aug, in response to a distress signal disseminated by the District Disaster Management Coordinating Unit, Gampaha, the SLN sources stated.
Two fire engines and three water bowsers from the Western Naval Command and three firefighting teams from SLNS Gemunu, Rangala and Kelani were utilized in the effort to extinguish the flames, the SLN added.
