Army-built new house with donor support vested in Jaffna ex-combatants
August 28, 2022Sri Lanka Army (SLA) with the patronage of the peninsula-based donor, Mr Vish Nataraja, built a new house for an ex-combatant family in Puloly, Jaffna and vested it in the beneficiaries in the presence of the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage yesterday (Aug 27),
Troops of the 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry of the 551 Brigade under the 55 Division provided the technical, engineering and manpower assistance for the construction of the house, the SLA sources said.
The house recipients, Mrs Tangarasa Dharmarani, her husband Mr Kumarakulasingham Prashanthan and their son symbolically received the keys of the new house and a cash donation during the brief house-warming ceremony, the SLA added.
The beneficiaries, both husband and wife who worked for the LTTE terrorist organization as combatants before 2009 sustained serious injuries, surrendered and were rehabilitated after recovery. Presently, he works as a labourer on a concrete manufacturing site.
During the event, three deserving students who performed very well in the recent scholarship examination were given away a monthly scholarship of Rs 5000/= under the sponsorship of Dr Piyasena Gamage, an expatriate in Australia, the SLA confirmed.
