Warning for Heavy Rain
August 31, 2022The Meteorology Department, issuing a warning for heavy rains, requested people living in hilly areas particularly prone to landslides and those living in low-lying areas of river basins to be watchful.
Met. Department also requested drivers and those using roads of hilly areas to be careful.
It also alerts people to take adequate precautions to minimize damages that may be caused by lightning.
According to the Met. Department sources, there is a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and therefore, very heavy showers above 150mm may occur at some places in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces.
Heavy showers of about 100mm may take place in some places and elsewhere.
The warning issued by Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Met. Department is valid until 07.00 a.m. tomorrow (Sep 01).
