New Australian High Commissioner meets Defence Secretary
September 16, 2022- Sri Lanka and Australia to further enhance defence cooperation
The newly appointed Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka H.E. Paul Stephens paid a courtesy call on Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne at the Defence Headquarters Complex in Sri Jayewardenepura, Kotte today (Sep 16).
The Defence Secretary warmly received the new Australian envoy upon his arrival at the Defence Ministry, this morning.
During the meeting the Australian High Commissioner on behalf of the Australian government expressed gratitude to the Defence Ministry for its role in facilitating the recent successful visit of the Australian Home Affairs and Cyber Security Minister Hon. Clare O'Neil MP, to Sri Lanka.
Defence Secretary Gen. Gunaratne while welcoming the new envoy to the country stated both countries share close ties and he looks forward to work closely with the new envoy.
Further enhancing defence cooperation, training opportunities and joint naval exercises were also included in the discussion during the session.
Military Liaison Officer of the Defence Ministry Maj. Gen. Dinesh Nanayakkara and Defence Advisor of the Australian High Commission Captain Ian Cain were also present at the occasion.
