Army constructs a house for a northern family

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) laid the foundation stone recently for the construction of a new house for the family of Selvarathnam Jayapratha, a resident of Thunnalai in Point Pedro.

Accordingly, the foundation stone for the construction of the proposed house was laid amidst Hindu religious rites and rituals.

SL Army will provide manpower for the project which is sponsored by an overseas-based philanthropist through Modera - Mattakkuliya Lions Club, the SLA said.

During the brief ceremony, the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Maj. Gen. Chandana Wijayasundara gifted a relief dry ration pack to the deserving family and a stock of essential school items for school children in the area, including those in the family.

Members of Modera - Mattakkuliya Lions Club, Assistant Divisional Secretary of Karaveddy, Brigade Commanders of 551, 552 and 553 Brigades, Commanding Officers of all Units, Grama Niladhari of the respective area, Army personnel and residents were also present at the occasion.
