Navy trains female divers

A group of three female personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy successfully completed a first of its kind Basic Diving Module recently. According to SL Navy media, the training programme was carried out under a notion of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne  to create opportunity for Navy women who are willing to engage in diving.

The group of three female trainee including two lady officers and a women sailor completed the 20 day training module that commenced at the Navy’s Diving School at the Naval Dockyard in Trincomalee earlier (05) this month (Sep), it says.

They received their certificates from the Commandant of Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Commodore Damian Fernando at a ceremony held at the Diving School on Saturday (24 Sep).  

The Navy expects to deploy the first group of Navy women based on the diving expertise they will acquire in the future.
