SLAF contingent members in Central African Republic awarded with
UN Peace Keeping medals

United Nations Peacekeepers medal awarding parade for the Sri Lanka Air Force 7th Aviation Contingent deployed in Bria, Central African Republic was held recently (21 Sep).
According to Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) media, the Sector East Commander of the UN Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) Brigadier General Syed Mohammad Shaheed Rahman, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, was present as the Guest of Honour.
The Sri Lankan contingent earned the praise of the chief guest for its professionalism, dedication and courage in the face of extreme adversity in playing a substantial role for the MINUSCA.
The chief guest and guest of honor were received by the Contingent Commander, Wing Commander Priyanka Herath while Wing Commander Janaka Dodangoda commanded the parade.
The 7th Sri Lanka Air Force Contingent deployed to MINUSCA in November last year (2021) includes 20 officers and 90 other rank personnel. It has flown 1098 hours for air transport operations, VIP flights, medical evacuations, casualty evacuations and armed missions while transporting 2942 passengers and 265,257 kg of cargo, it says.
Chief Aviation Officer in MINUSCA, Mr. Charles Roger Amoussou, Deputy Sector Commander Sector East, Colonel Ahmed Gomaa Mohamed, military and civilian UN staff officers in MINUSCA were also present at the occasion.
