Rainy weather to continue

The rainy weather conditions experienced in parts of the country is likely to continue during the weekend according to the latest forecasts of the Metrological Department issued at 1200 noon today (30 Sep).

The forecast predicts showery condition to enhance to some extent in the South-western part of the Island during next few days. Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy rainfalls of about 75 mm may occur at some places, it says.

Rains may occur in the North-Western province. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara district during the evening or night.

Strong winds of about 50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-Central and Southern provinces and in the Trincomalee district.

The Met. Dept requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
