Adverse weather condition to continue

The prevailing adverse weather condition is expected to continue for the next few days according to a weather forecast issued by the Meteorology Department, this morning (28th August). The prevailing rainy conditions in the South-western part of the island is expected to enhance to some extent during the next few days.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces while places in the Anuradhapura district may experience light showers.

The sea areas extending from Hambantota to Kalmunai via Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanturai can be rough at times as winds may pick up and increase in speed up to 55 -60 kmph at times. Temporary strong gusty of winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thunder showers. Naval and fishing communities are requested to take precaution in this regard.

Meanwhile, the sun will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 27th of August to 07th of September. The nearest towns where the sun will be overhead today (about 12.12 noon) are Nachchikkuda, Murikandi, Alankulam and Pirappuvedduvan, further states the Met Department forecast.
