Navy conducts events under ‘Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu’ programme in Jaffna
August 29, 2019Following His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena's ‘Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu’ concept, programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy was held in Jaffna and its island sector from 23rd to 26th August 2019.
On the directives by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva the Northern Naval Command organized a range of events which included beach cleaning programmes, tree plantation programmes, awareness programmes on the consequences of illegal fishing practices, drug awareness campaigns and shramadana events in Kareinagar, Madagal, Vettalakeni as well as on the islands of Kayts, Mandativu and Pungudutivu. Apart from that, a friendly cricket match was also held with the participation of the community in Vettalakeni. Meanwhile, security committees were also set up for the schools located on the Delft Island.
