Defence Secretary graces Remembrance Day ceremony
November 13, 2022The Remembrance Day commemorative ceremony was held at the Cenotaph at the Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo today (13 Nov).
The annual ceremony was held under the patronage of Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne this morning.
President of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's Association (SLESA) Maj. Gen. Upul Perera (Retd) received the Defence Secretary upon his arrival at the venue.
The chief guest and the other dignitaries followed by representatives of Ex Servicemen societies made floral tributes at the Cenotaph. A parade was also held by the former armed forces personnel.
The Remembrance Day or Armistice Day ceremony popularly known as the Poppy Day that recollects the memories of fallen War Heroes inclusive of those perished in great wars is an annual event organized by the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA).
Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the Air Force and Navy, Chief of Staff Army, officias of the SLESA, a large representative gathering of both serving and retired tri service officers and other ranks were present at the occasion.
