SL Army troops clear blockage in Kelani river
November 14, 2022Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops rushed to clear a blockage in the Kelani River around the ‘Podi Palama’ in Nawagamuwa, Mapitigama on Saturday (12 Nov).
According to SL Army media, responding to a request by the Colombo Disaster Management Centre, Army had dispatched a group of soldiers attached to Security Force Headquarters West (SFHQ-West) on the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage.
Flood debris that had flowed down the river had got collected under the bridge disrupting the smooth flow of the river.
With instructions by Commander, Security Forces-West Major General Deepal Pussella, Troops of the 24 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 2 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry of the 144 Brigade under the 14 Division of the SFHQ - West got to the task and cleared the blockage with the support of Policemen in Nawagamuwa within hours, it says.
