Navy assists Indian fishermen in distress
September 02, 2019Vigilant naval troops onboard a naval craft on patrol duties in the Northern seas had rescued four (04) Indian fishermen from a distressed trawler in seas off Kachchativu in Jaffna, on Sunday (01 September). Navy media states, that the four fishermen had encountered this unfortunate incident as a result of rough sea conditions.
Naval troops had observed a trawler adrift in the Northern seas on Sunday morning and had rushed to provided assistance. The four Indian fishermen, aged between 37 to 60 years were provided with food and drink by the naval troops as they were found to be fatigued from being adrift in rough seas for hours.
The fishermen and the vessel were handed over to Jaffna Fisheries Inspector for onward action by naval troops.
