Two Navy ships set sail to attend ‘SLINEX- 2019’ in India
September 06, 2019Two Sri Lankan Navy ships had left the country to India to take part in the Sri Lanka Navy and Indian Navy Exercise (SLINEX 2019), on Thursday (05 September). Navy media states, that the two ships, ‘Sindurala’ and ‘Suranimala’ had left homes shores from the Eastern Port of Trincomalee amidst traditional naval customs.
The two naval ships are scheduled to arrive at Visakhapatnam in India on Saturday (07).
The ‘SLINEX 2019’ is scheduled to commence on 07th and continue till 12th of this month (September). The local contingent of 323 naval personnel also includes the Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva.
The sendoff ceremony was attended by senior naval officers including Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe.
This exercise signifies the desire of the two countries to enhance co-operation and further strengthen mutual trust and interoperability between their Navies. it will also enable both Navies to rehearse and improve own capabilities and enhance operational effectiveness required to maintain maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
