Wanni troops initiate social welfare projects

More than 300 civilians with visual impairments were benefitted by a special eye clinic organized by Army troops in Wanni, recently. The eye clinic was held last week (13) at the 56 Division Headquarters in the Wanni with the participation of Eye Specialists, Technicians and staff at the Vavuniya District Hospital.

The clinic, held under a social service initiative of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), also saw the distribution of eye glasses, sponsored by the Lions Club of Matara, to patients diagnosed with vision ailments.

Meanwhile, a group of over 800 trainees of the ‘Kiyoshiru Budo’ martial art programme phase II, presently underway at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) lent their assistance to the ongoing construction of the ‘Sandhahiru Seya’ (Stupa) at Anuradhapura, on Saturday (14).

The programme was designed with the intention to keep the trainees physically fit while contributing towards a national project.

The stupa is being constructed to commemorate all the War Heroes who laid their lives during the war.
