September 23, 2019

A group of needy students in Jaffna were presented with new bicycles during a ceremony held at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Saturday (21). According to Army media, these bicycles were presented to these students with a view to assist them with their educational activities as they face difficulties in commuting to school from their homes.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, graced the ceremony as the chief guest upon the request of Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya.

In addition to the bicycles, troops also distributed valuable plants of economic value to the parents who had accompanied their children to the ceremony. This was carried out as a part of the ongoing tree planting campaign in the region.

So far, troops in Jaffna have been able to distribute more than 400 bicycles to deserving students in the Peninsula during the last year with the generous support extended by local and foreign philanthropists.
