Army 70th anniversary celebrations commence with religious ceremony at Dalada Maligawa

The Sri Lanka Army will be celebrating its 70th anniversary, next month (October). A series of religious ceremonies will precede the 'Army Day' ceremony on 10th October (2019).

 According to Army media a religious ceremony was held at the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy on Saturday (28)  where inaugural offerings, alms-giving and flag-blessing ceremonies took place.

A 'Sangeeka Daana' (alms-giving) to 70 members of the Maha Sangha, led by Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatte Chapter and Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter was also conducted during the day.

The ceremonies were graced by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

The flag blessing ceremony was held at the inner chambers of the Temple of the Tooth in the evening.

Army Chief of Staff, Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, senior military officers and a large number of other rank personnel were also present at the occasion.
