Army flag blessing ceremony at ‘Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi’

As a precursor to the upcoming 70th Army Day celebrations, another flag blessing ceremony was held at the sacred ‘Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi’ in Anuradhapura, today morning (01 October). The ceremony was headed by the Chief Incumbent for all eight places of worship (Atamasthandhipathi), Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Sirinivasa Nayaka Thero.

Hundreds of soldiers carrying Army flags representing all formations attended the blessing ceremony where members of the Maha Sangha chanted ‘Seth Pirith’, sprinkled jasmine water around the foot of the sacred tree and invoked blessings on the Army flags.

Special sermons were also made by the Maha Nayake Theros during the occasion. Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva also offered a special cash donation of Rs 1 million for development of the sacred place to the Atamasthanadhipathi during the ceremony.

Chief of Staff, senior officers and a large number of all rank personnel were present at the occasion.

The initial flag blessing ceremony was conducted at the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, last Saturday (28).The Sri Lanka Army will celebrate its 70th anniversary on 10th October.
