Kotelawala Defence University ‘Open Day’ on Sunday

The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in Ratmalana, popularly known as the ‘KDU’ will have its annual ‘Open Day’, tomorrow (06 October). The ‘Open Day’ is held with the aim to give an idea of the university, the courses offered and other benefits the students who expect to follow their higher studies at this premier seat of learning.

Any student who wishes to pursue higher education can visit the KDU on Sunday (06) from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm and get a clear idea of the university, its faculties and courses. They can also talk with the members of the academic staff who would be present on the day to assist prospective students.

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was initially established as the “General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy” by the Parliamentary Act No 68 of 1981 and subsequently was elevated to University status by the amendment Act No 27 of 1988, thereby empowering it to award Bachelors’ and Postgraduate degrees in Defence Studies.

This prestigious university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (United Kingdom) and maintains necessary standards for educating and grooming Officer Cadets to meet the challenges of modern defence management.

KDU is open for civil students who wish to continue their higher studies in the fields of Defence Studies and Strategic Studies, Engineering, Law, Management, Social Sciences, Medicine, Computing, Allied Health Sciences, Built Environment and Spatial Sciences and Research and Development.

The KDU at Ratmalana is a sprawling campus with all facilities and a conducive environment for a student to have a complete higher education. Its Southern Campus at Sooriyawewa is a new addition which is set in a natural environment in the Southern region.

The university is open for international student as well.
