Simulated Maritime Search and Rescue operation using SLAF helicopter
October 09, 2019A simulated Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) operation, utilizing a MI 17 trooper version helicopter was carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy, on Monday (07 October).
According to Air Force media, the simulated offshore hoist operation was conducted at seas off Kerawalapitiya with the Sri Lanka Navy ship 'Parakramabahu'. This is the first time such an operation has been carried out utilizing an Air Force Helicopter.
The Sri Lanka Air Force rescue team has conducted many search and rescue operations in the past during natural calamities and at sea. Furthermore, Air Force surveillance aircraft facilitate the rescue of survivors by directing surface vessels with quick and accurate references.
