Sick fisherman brought ashore for treatment

A local fisherman who had fallen sick while at sea was brought ashore for treatment with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy on Thursday (10 October) According to Navy media, the fisherman had left for fishing onboard a fishing trawler named, ‘Sachen Putha 1’ from the Negombo fisheries harbor, last week (04).

While at sea the fisherman, a 20-year-old resident of Negombo had contracted a stomach ailment that required medical treatment. A Fast Attack Craft (FAC) was dispatched by the Navy to retrieve the patient upon being informed of the emergency by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

The Navy FAC reached the fishing craft at about 47 nautical miles off the Galle Lighthouse and upon safely transferring the patient onboard and administering first aid, rushed to shore. He was later sent to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital upon being brought to the Galle harbor.
