Rainy weather likely to continue further

The prevailing wet weather is likely to continue for the next few days. According to the latest weather forecast issued by the Met Department today (16), prevailing showery condition, due to the low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of the country is expected to enhance to some extent over most parts of the island during next few days from today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island while heavy falls of above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western Southern and Uva provinces and in Mannar district.

A maximum rainfall of over 113mm was recorded from the Ratnapura area during the last 24-hour period.

Places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provincescan experience misty conditions in the early part of the day.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
