Coastguard conducts lifesaving awareness programmes for Southern communities
October 17, 2019A series of life savings and drowning prevention awareness workshops for civilians and school children in the Southern region was conducted by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), recently. According to Coastguard media, these lifesaving awareness workshops were conducted in the Hambantota District in view of ‘Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu’ Programme.
Accordingly, lifesaving workshops were held at the kirindigama and Bundala Primary Schools, Hambantota Fishery Harbor and Bandagiriya lake on 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th (October 2019) respectively.
These awareness workshops were conducted with the aim of educating the general public, including the fishing community and school children on water safety, drowning prevention and first aid.
A large number of civiliansand school children benefitted from these programmes. Representatives from the Presidential Secretariat, local government bodies, Divisional Secretariat and other governmental officials were also present at the programmes.
