Educational and livelihood assistance to families of former combatants

A group of children of former LTTE combatants were provided with educational assistance at a ceremony organized by the Security Force Headquarters-Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), on Friday (18 th October).

During the brief ceremony at the SFHQ-KLN conference hall, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva presented 20 schooling children of former combatant families, with bank savings books with deposits, school accessories, uniform materials, school bags and books, etc.

In addition, 15 rehabilitated former combatant breadwinners of those families were also presented with livelihood assistance equipment, including welding plants, grinder machines, electric drills, masonry aids, push bicycles, wheelchairs, solar panels and home appliances etc.

The beneficiaries were selected after being recommended by respective Grama Seva officials in consultation with responsible Divisional Secretariats of those administrative areas.

Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi, Major General Vijitha Ravipriya, senior military officers, former combatants and their families  and civilians were also present at the occasion.
