Secretary holds discussion to develop Police Medical Service Division (PMSD)

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General (Retd) SHS Kottegoda, WWV RWP  RSP  VSV  USP ndc, chaired a meeting with Police top brass at the Ministry auditorium to discuss Police welfare matters, especially its medical services, on Friday (18th October).

The meeting was attended by the Acting IG CD Wickramaratne, Additional Secretary (Law and Order) Mr. Thusitha Wanigasinghe and Additional Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Sunil De Alwis. Representatives of the Senior Gazzetted Officer’s Association, DIG Welfare, DIG Ranmal Kodithuwakku, Chief Medical Officer, R/SSP Dr. Rohitha Fernando, MOD Officials, Senior MOH officials and several senior Police officers were also present at the meeting.

Discussions were held on a number of important issues pertaining to the Police Medical Service division, including recruitment of doctors and medical staff to function the Police Hospital in the optimum level. Police Medical Officers R/SSP Dr.Kalinga Ginige, R/SSP Dr. Chamendra Ranasinghe, SP Mr.Chamika P Wickramasinghe (Director/ PMSD) R/SP Dr. Ravindra Basnayake shared their comments in this regard.

Secretary Defence had lengthy discussions with those present to find lasting solutions for the issues faced by the PMSD.  Finding ways and means of further developing the PMSD was also taken up for discussion.  The Secretary also issued direction for a committee to be formed to overlook the development of the Police Medical Service Division.
