‘Colombo Air Symposium 2019’ begins
October 24, 2019The Sri Lanka Air Force organized ‘Colombo Air Symposium- 2019’ commenced at the Eagles’ Lakeside Banquet and Convention Hall in Attidiya, this morning (24th October).
Minister of Mass Media and State Minister of Defence, Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene attended the inaugural session of the international conference as the chief guest.
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General (Retd) SHS Kottegoda WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc, also attended the event as a special guest.
Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias received the chief guest and the Secretary Defence upon their arrival at the venue.
The two-day conference is being held under the theme “A Small Air Force: Way Forward in Achieving Future Vision”.
This is the 5th in the series of annual symposiums to be organized by the Air Force.
A number of military leaders, technical experts, global think tanks and diplomats representing all regions are attending the Air Symposium this year.
The Colombo Air Symposium was initiated in 2015 and since then it has evolved into establishing a solid platform for the experts and scholars in the military field to expand the multiple aspects of applying Air Power with a futuristic vision.
Thematic discussions and presentations will be held by renowned military officers and professionals during sessions spread over two days of the conclave.
This year's theme "A Small Air Force: Way Forward in Achieving Future Vision" is focused on exploring the role of small air forces in a future which emphasizes the importance of strategic intervention of Air Power in coining pragmatic solutions for the matters stemming from the national security concerns as well the other widening global issues such as the global warming and natural disasters.
Senior state officials including the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the Army and Navy, senior Tri Forces officers and a large number of invitees were also present at the occasion.
The ‘Colombo Air Symposium 2018’ was held last year at the same venue under the theme ‘Air Strategy in Substantiating the Geo Strategic Importance of Sri Lanka’.
